Primary Purpose:

Responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the National General enterprise Microsoft Active Directory and Messaging infrastructure. Provide architectural guidance of large-scale, highly available Windows Active Directory and Exchange environments, while also involved in project based work centric to Microsoft technologies.   


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and support an Active Directory forest, multiple domains, Microsoft Exchange and Skype for Business platforms
  • Administer and maintain Proof Point SMTP Mail Gateway platform, Mail flow, gateway filter blocks, virus scanning and virus blocks
  • Develop a technical architecture as it relates to Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange  ensuring standards are created and managed to support the overall design
  • Administer and manage the faxing and unified messaging server environments
  • Perform installations, configuration changes, and maintenance of hardware, firmware, operating systems, and software
  • Participate in system performance tuning and technical troubleshooting sessions
  • Analyze business and user requirements to design and deliver appropriate technical solutions
  • Provide recommendations to management on developing enterprise-wide system improvements, efficiencies and service delivery
  • Install, fine tune and administer Active Directory to ensure reliability and resiliency
  • Install, fine tune and administer Exchange systems using Database Availability Groups (DAGs)
  • Participate in on call rotation for support of Exchange and messaging environments
  • Develop messaging access controls, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintain and develop documentation
  • Support the Active Directory and Messaging team and the National General organization as the subject matter expert for Active Directory and Messaging
  • Ensure incidents are being monitored and assigned to the appropriate Active Directory and Messaging team members
  • Document and communicate an Active Directory and Messaging strategy to various levels within the organization
  • Collaborate with other technical resources within IT to ensure uptime and availability specific to Active Directory and Exchange
  • Proficient in ADFS, Office 365, and Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 6+ years of Active Directory and Exchange design and management in an Enterprise environment with emphasis on high-availability   
  • Knowledge of electronic records management including document retention, deletion and legal hold policies
  • Expert Knowledge of Windows Active Directory such as trust relationships, DNS, DHCP, and replication
  • Expert Knowledge of Messaging Applications such as: MS Skype, SMTP Gateway, Unified Messaging, or Faxing Solutions
  • Expert knowledge of Windows Server Operating System management and troubleshooting to include NTFS security
  • Familiarity with native Exchange archiving or third party solutions (ie, Enterprise Vault, Mimecast, OneSource)
  • Strong understanding of securing Exchange (ie, database permissions, TLS mail flow and access)
  • Experience with designing, connecting, and operating Exchange on Storage Area Networks
  • Experience developing a directory services and messaging strategy leveraging Microsoft technologies to support current and future needs, including but not limited to, documentation, communication, implementation, and support
  • Working knowledge of user migrations or mailbox/account importing processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting, facilitate effective team interactions, and to foster a positive work environment; willingness to assist teammates in order to achieve departmental goals
  • Ability to present complex ideas or situations in a clear, simple and understandable manner to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adjust priorities appropriately in an evolving work environment with shifting time frames; self-starter with high degree of initiative, urgency, and follow through
  • Excellent attention-to-detail, sound reasoning, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in fast paced and changing environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)


Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in an IT related discipline
  • Understanding of change control procedures, high availability, business continuity, and disaster recovery concepts as they relate to distributed systems architectures
  • IT industry certifications to include Project Management Professional (PMP) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
  • Experience in publicly traded financial services and/or insurance
