Job Description

  • Primary Purpose:

    Responsible for the direct management of Catastrophe Deployed and In-Office Adjusters level I,II & III,  tactical and strategic planning for CAT response to declared and undeclared events, service standards, expense management and development of direct reports.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

    The Catastrophe Section Manager position will have a broad range of roles and responsibilities in the decision making and direction of NatGen’s CAT division. Section Managers will react to declared and undeclared CAT events based on business needs and capacity. Overlapping within operations is likely when multiple states are affected, CAT Section Managers will be expected to oversee each operation based on jurisdictional requirements and CAT operating guidelines.

    • Responsible for coordinating of Catastrophe response teams,  includes staffing, monitoring and controlling expenses, establishing team and individual objectives, and ensuring division objectives are met.  This includes supervision, performance evaluation and salary recommendations to Claims Management
    • Drive clarity of business strategies, creates alignment, and adeptly identifies and pursues new opportunities that allow the CAT unit to respond according to industry and jurisdictional expectations.   
    • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external clients in order to attract develop/grow and retain profitable business including Agency partners, Independent Firms (IA) and other vendors that support the new CAT Response Model
    • Interact with numerous departments to ensure that all in place processes and procedures are being executed properly and willing to speak up and make recommendations on any gaps in order to improve the processes in place
    • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements as well as internal policies, procedures and processing standards including adherence to the new CAT HR Response Policy
    • Oversee and provide overall direction and guidance to their direct reports
    • Maintain service standards, statutory compliance, licensing, and efficiencies of the respective section 
    • Direct resolution of problems, complaints and general public relation issues, which arise concerning service
    • Review and report work volume and operating results while providing regular communication to senior level management being generated by CAT operations. This will commonly include operations that stretch through multiple states and that vary in severity. CAT metrics will cover both I/O and Deployed functions, and IA firms being utilized to scale a response to an event.
    • Assist and/or directs special projects or requests
    • Analyze budget variances and assist with development of annual budget process/variances
    • Manage employee and customer satisfaction
    • Research and resolve escalated requests and or complaints from customers, etc.

    • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
    • Demonstrated proficiencies in managing a department/ unit through consistent performance and results
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Demonstrate the ability to interpret research and opinions and apply accurately to establish action plans
    • Demonstrate solid understanding of global company knowledge, totality of impact of decisions, and leadership abilities
    • Demonstrate exceptional leadership and diplomacy skills with the ability to coach, develop and mentor to bring out the best in the employee
    •  Must have a record of having successfully achieving business goals, including managing staff members
    • Excellent negotiation skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
    • Outstanding customer service and presentation skills
    • Experience with designing and mapping workflow
    • Demonstrate flexibility with the need to travel (extensively) as required with short notice
    • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
    • Requires a high degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion 
    • Ability to resolve conflicts and empathize with others
    • Demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills
    • Demonstrate the ability to find answers to more complex issues with insurance law and is a source of direction / assistance for other reports 
    • Have a clear understanding of the Catastrophe environment that includes irregular hours, days, weekends, holidays, overnight stay, onsite CAT operation leadership presence, lead I/O & Deployed staff remotely and simultaneously when managing an active CAT operation, etc.

      Desired Skills:

    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of structure, functions, flow, and procedures of NatGen’s Catastrophe Operating Model that includes all current and active business partners.
    • Previous experience in Catastrophe & Homeowners insurance segments (Deployed & I/O)
    • Active Licensing in all states.
    • CPCU, MBA, and other continued education.
