Primary Purpose:

Responsible for diagnosing and solving complex policy administration change requests received from sales management, sales partners or internal operations management. Analyze and resolve new business underwriting submission errors to ensure business being received and issued meets National General Business guidelines.     


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review, assess and resolve independently complex new business underwriting exception report data to ensure proper disposition of incoming business 
  • Review, assess and resolve independently complex policy changes for existing business; complex changes include, but are not limited to demographic changes resulting in member rate changes, billing adjustments/drafts, voids, refunds and rescission removals
  • Correspond through written and oral communication to the member and agent of record as needed based on outcome of new and existing business change
  • Process complex policy “clean ups” projects as a result of partner, internal system issues or changes in governmental regulations that affect business within our policy administration system
  • Assist in the creation and documentation of new operational system processes as new product, business rules or regulations are introduced
  • Conduct policy issuance determination based upon general underwriting guidelines for simplified issued medical policies
  • Manage the credit card and banking charge back process with our external banking partners
  • Manage the list bill account set up with our sales distribution partners
  • Manage the reoccurring list bill billing process for our employer groups and agents which includes supporting the reconciliation of members and proper billing for our employer groups
  • Serve as a liaison to the Third Party Administrators and business partners for escalated issues
  • Work to continuously consider process improvements and share opportunities with Leadership
  • Provide feedback when training opportunities are identified to the Back Office, Member Services and other Operational areas
  • Promote teamwork through consistency, reliability and group cohesiveness
  • Be a subject matter expert in in all aspects of Accident and Health products including applications, billing, and administrative rules


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 2+ years of Health insurance/Operations related experience, specializing in policy administration and billing.
  • In-depth knowledge of the health insurance industry, including Short Term Medical and supplemental insurance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must perform well in high-energy, dynamic and team-oriented environments
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions based on contract language and documented processes
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to departmental deadlines
  • High degree of independence, dependability, and motivation
  • Ability to make sound decisions that maintain compliance with state and company guidelines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • Effectively communicate through oral and written communication


Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience in health insurance industry
  • Prior experience researching and responding to customer requests
  • Experience with National General Insurance programs for all states and lines of business
  • Experience with the claim-handling process
