Primary Purpose:

The Quality Assurance Analyst is primarily responsible for executing risk-based audit plans throughout the company, to best ensure compliance and efficiency, while identifying cost saving opportunities for the company. These audit plans address a variety of functions including vendor payment accuracy, claims payment accuracy, commission payment accuracy, agent performance standards, customer authorizations for insurance coverage, and adherence by departments to their standard operational procedures. This is an ideal position for candidates interesting in learning about the full inner workings of an insurance company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Perform routine audits of Third Party Administrator invoicing in comparison to contractual expectations to ensure payments to these TPA’s are appropriate
  • Perform routine audits of claims payment timeliness to ensure that state mandated late payment penalties are minimal yet appropriate for any given situation
  • Perform routine audits of agent commission payment accuracy, as well as ongoing monitoring of commission advancements in relation to commission earned to ensure such commission advancements are not at great risk for recoverability
  • Perform routine audits of agent performance standards, including customer complaints and customer data integrity, to ensure an optimal sales experience for our customers
  • Perform routine audits of agent social media use to ensure any marketing materials or sales messaging conforms to standards established through the agent/company signed contract allowing for the agent to sell National General products
  • Perform routine audits of customer authorizations for the insurance products purchased to ensure agents are adhering to protocol by not signing these authorizations on behalf of their customers
  • Perform annual audits of Standard Operating Procedures established by departments throughout the company, to ensure these documents are current and are being followed consistently
  • Lead ad hoc small-to-medium quality assurance projects, which includes interviewing various departments to learn how teams and technology function, assessing process weaknesses, and identifying opportunities for process improvements
  • Review and expand upon existing audit plans to further identify process improvements, and recognize cost savings and expense recovery opportunities, while ensuring that audit plans stay current and relevant as the business evolves
  • Build a network of relationships throughout the National General organization to facilitate successful project outcomes
  • For all aspects of the responsibilities listed above, provide formal audit reports with findings, and include any specific recommendations for improvement that can be addressed
  • Utilize analytics applications to pull reports and review data to support audits and assess data-driven business scenarios

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 2+ years of insurance industry experience in the areas of Operations, Internal Audit, or Business Analyst
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to learn new applications and systems
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions with minimal assistance
  • Ability to champion process improvement opportunities from inception through adaptation and completion
  • Strong verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with other functions throughout the company
  • Ability to adapt to change and shifting business priorities
  • Effective organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, adhere to project deadlines, and work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Works independently with little supervision but also a good team player

Desired Skills:

  • 5+ years of health insurance industry experience, preferably NGIC experience
  • Experience working cross-functionally in a quality assurance and internal audit role
  • In-depth knowledge of administrative systems, third party administrators, medical claims, commission payments
  • Proficient with analytical applications (SQL Server, Oracle, Power BI,)
  • Strong analytical and auditing skills
