Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Under general direction, responsible for projects associated with the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of all, or specifically assigned, tax returns and related reports including but not limited to federal, state & local, sales & use, excise and premium taxes. Assists with special projects or requests as needed.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, and file Federal and State corporate income tax returns and quarterly estimated taxes
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual tax provisions
  • Review premium tax returns and assessments
  • Review tax account accruals and reconciliations
  • Prepare various tax projections
  • Identify and develop tax-related strategies and tax planning opportunities
  • Monitor Federal and State tax developments, determine impact of changes on the Company, and develop implementation plans
  • Assist with IRS exam process
  • Manager work and relationships with outside tax consultants
  • Work with auditors on quarterly and annual reporting

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 5+ years of work experience in corporate tax
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure
  • Understanding of GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles as they are applied to tax accounting
  • Familiarity with SSAP 101 and ASC 740 concepts
  • Experience with Accounting for Income Taxes
  • Experience with consolidated, multi-state income and franchise tax returns
  • Ability to perform tax research and write technical memos
  • High degree of initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes through creativity, innovation, and execution
  • Keen prioritization and organization skills
  • Ability to navigate and manage change

Desired Skills:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Property and Casualty Insurance tax experience
