Primary Purpose:

Implement and maintain enterprise class storage products to include EMC & Pure Storage products. Manage backup and recovery schedules, capacity management trending, monitoring and alerting, performance tuning, consumption forecasting, and optimization initiatives. This position can be located in the Cleveland, OH or Winston-Salem, NC offices.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform installations, configuration changes, and maintenance of storage hardware, appliances, and software
  • Develop and maintain scripted and automated tools for management of the backup and storage environment
  • Analyze business and user requirements to design and deliver appropriate technical solutions
  • Develop and maintain automated procedures and technical documentation for system implementation, auditing and software distribution
  • Process requests for additional storage space or requests for restorations via ticketing system
  • Work with infrastructure, application and database teams when resolving issues
  • Participate in system performance tuning and technical troubleshooting sessions
  • Strive to make enhancements to the storage environment continuously, as well as associated processes  and procedures documentation
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Serve as an engineering resource for small and large scale projects, working under limited direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
  • Work with business continuity specialists in the creation of business impact analysis
  • Create and document all actions, practices, procedures and processes
  • Create and document maintenance plans
  • Create, document and implement disaster recovery and (business continuity) testing


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 3+ years of experience in storage administration
  • Fabric switch knowledge: single initiator best practice, VSAN/Domain, soft zoning, security, etc
  • Know and understand clustering services, high availability solutions and continuous data protection technologies
  • Knowledge of LDAP, DNS and TCP/IP  protocols
  • Experience with multi pathing for ESXi, UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Must perform well in high-energy, dynamic and team-oriented environments
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with a common sense approach to problem investigation and resolution
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)


Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in an IT related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, and / or work experience
  • EMC Certification such as EMCSA
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification
  • Strong LDAP, DNS, TCP/IP protocol knowledge and shell scripting
  • Understanding of Change Control procedures, High Availability, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery concepts as they relate to Distributed Systems architectures
  • Know and understand clustering services, high availability solutions and continuous data protection technologies
  • Cisco UCS, EMC Avamar DataDomain experience
