Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the daily operation and administration of a large-scale, high availability VMware environment. Participate in project based VMware consolidations, live migrations, and disaster recovery operations for a distributed environment across multiple data centers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, administration, and management of Windows based virtual servers to support a highly available and scalable virtual infrastructure
  • Provide day to day administration and upgrade support for vCenter Server and VMware ESXi
  • Follow process and procedures for deploying and administering virtual machines, maintain established service levels and perform basic troubleshooting
  • Monitor vSphere implementations; and manage vCenter server alarms
  • Provide input on data protection, authentication control, resource management, monitoring and high availability
  • Participate in project based activities actively and take ownership of projects
  • May be assigned to second or third shift per business and operational needs

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 1+ years of experience implementing and administering mission critical enterprise class VMware systems
  • Experience with VMWare ESXi6.x hypervisor installation, operation and maintenance
  • Experience with Windows Server platforms including Windows Server 2008 R2 and later
  • Experience with clustering services, load balancing and replication services
  • Understanding of ‘'Core Services' including, but not limited to, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, HTTP, Systems Management, Data Backup & Security, etc
  • Basic experience with Cisco UCS server hardware and EMC VBlock administration 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Sciences
  • VMware VCP-DCA and/or current Microsoft based certifications
  • Experience with VMware tools such as SRM, VROPS, NSX, etc
  • Experience using various monitoring tools such as SCCM/SCOM, Solarwinds and scripting for virtualization automation
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, IIS and PowerScript knowledge
  • Understanding of change control procedures, high availability, business continuity, and Disaster Recovery concepts as they relate to distributed systems architectures
  • Citrix XenApp and SQL database familiarity
  • Project Management Experience
