Job Description

Primary Purpose:

This position works under the direction of the Actuarial Department in the P&C Division and spends a majority of their time preparing and analyzing statistical, financial, and other external information to support fact-based decisions related to financial results, pricing, reserving, and premium and loss trends.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and analyzing data required for  actuarial loss ratio projections, claim statistics, and loss trend reports produced and distributed by the Actuarial Reporting team.  
  • Assists with analysis and implementation of changes to new and existing actuarial projection models.    
  • Supports enhancement of projection models, pricing models and/or reserving models to improve prediction accuracy.
  • Completes assigned special projects to analyze and answer specific business questions related to the analysis of trends, factors, and business issues.
  • Assists in analyzing experience results and profitability.
  • Communicate and collaborate with business partners in other functional teams, including product, finance, accounting, claims, IT, and senior management.

  • Bachelor or advanced degree in actuarial science, statistics, computer science, insurance, engineering, mathematics, economics, business administration or related analytics-oriented discipline.
  • Strong computer skills with experience in SAS and also Microsoft products including Office, .NET, VS, VB & VBA programming.
  • Highly proficient in managing and manipulating data in MS Excel.
  • Proficient with MS Access and MS SQL Server.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and project skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relational databases, data extraction, and the ability to organize and analyze complex data sets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to present information to management, and other functional teams.
  • Actuarial CAS Exams a plus.
  • Experience with insurance data a plus.
