Primary Purpose:

The Actuarial Analyst II will assist the Product Manager in the introduction, contribute to the development and management pricing of all insurance products lines offered by Direct. In addition, he or she the Analyst is assigned state(s) to monitor will additionally be responsible for the loss ratio, growth and profit of assigned state(s), channel(s), and/or segments of business in the same manner,  in order to develop his/her skills as a Product Manager.and continually develop actionable insights that drive business goals of growth and profitability.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Responsible for the loss ratio, growth and profit of assigned state(s), channel(s), and/or segments of business
  • Using various external software packages. Responsible for aspects of rate revision analytics as follows;
    • the Senior Product Analyst will develop and maintain a database used to monitor the competitive position of the company within each market across all rating variableDevelop rate revision proposals and evaluate potential rate dislocesation across numerous segments of the current book of business 
    • Analyze. This database should include rate change histories, ranks by month, dollars out and left on the table, etccompetitor pricing, elasticity, and histograms of rate dispersion across rating variables.   The findings are to be reported to management monthly. When necessary,
    • Suggest and implement changes to programs to maximize both growth and profit.
    • Create actuarial rate support exhibits in cooperation with the Product Managers for DOI review and approval of rate filings
  • Analyze competitive factors by rating variables.
  • Analyze inforce and quote database to recognize deficiencies in competitive position.
  • Develop and maintain testing procedures for testing rate changes completely and accurately.
  • Create rate/rule filings for DOI review and approval.
  • Coordinate and communicate rate/rule changes.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for quarterly loss reserving analysis in assigned state(s) as needed
  • Produce any management reports as deemed necessary by the actuarial department.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Pursue actuarial credential by sitting for actuarial exams on a regular basis



Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Statistics, Business, or Economics or related field of study
  • Two or more years experience in private passenger automobile insurance pricing, claims or product analysis preferred
  • At least one actuarial exam successfully passed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in SQL is a plus, preferably DB2 or SQL Server
  • Organized and capable of working on multiple projects
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Knowledge of insurance and private passenger automobile
  • Self-starter
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
