Primary Purpose:

The Billing Support Representative is responsible for processing billing requests received from internal and external customers and exception reports generated by the policy system.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Perform billing functions to include making decisions to follow up or refer when applicable
  • Process policy level billing requests such as credit card, inspections, Agency Clearing House drafts, refunds, premium finance cancellations/reinstatements, non-sufficient fund checks, returned pre notes, transfer of funds, bankruptcies, charge offs, single check refunds, reinstatements, break down letters, pay plan changes and various billing related reports
  • Process less complex policy “clean ups” as a result of system issues
  • Handle the majority of billing requests independent of a lead or supervisor
  • Share feedback when training opportunities are identified
  • Promote teamwork through consistency, reliability and group cohesiveness
  • Effectively communicates through oral and written communication
  • Provide superior service by delivering a WOW experience for all customers as a result of processing approach
  • Continuously considers process improvements and shares opportunities with Leadership
  • Complete administrative tasks such as entering daily productivity and time in Work Day
  • Follow work plans while maintaining an acceptable level of service, customer satisfaction and quality

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • Demonstrate math and typing proficiency
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Highly effective in multi- tasking, and exercising sound judgment
  • High degree of dependability, motivation and flexibility
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
  • Ability to think analytically
  • Must perform well in high-energy, dynamic and team-oriented environments
  • Ability to consistently utilize proper procedures and resources to determine proper action to be taken
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, organization skills and timeliness in order to meet customer service expectations


Desired Skills:

  • Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute
  • Previous billing/banking/accounts payable and receivables experience preferred
  • Previous experience in insurance with personal auto, commercial, motorcycle, recreational vehicle and/or homeowners products
