Primary Purpose:

Responsible for data preparation, data mining, model development, report building and results presentation in support of Claims Operations.  Works closely with senior leaders to identify opportunities, set objectives, and formulate analytics strategies that result in measurable impact to the National General Insurance business.

  • Conduct exploratory data analysis across multiple internal and external data sources
  • Evaluate business performance on an ongoing basis and dynamically monitor critical operational measures
  • Work cross functionally with stakeholders to gather requirements, translate requirements into organized workflows and deliver timely, insightful, and actionable analysis
  • Assist Claims Leadership  in targeted management of functional areas  utilizing existing and new measures of business outcomes
  • Develop predictive models to support and improve operational decision making throughout the claims lifecycle
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify informational gaps and implement solutions to close gaps
  • Assist others in production of reports, analytics solutions and data quality assurance according to Analytic Department standards
  • Maintain expert knowledge of claims operations and the property and casualty industry 

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1+ years of experience developing in SQL
  • 1+ years of experience developing quantitative approaches on diverse, large-scale data sources.
  • Experience with data summarization, description, prediction, classification, clustering, outlier detection, time series analysis, numerical analysis, optimization, automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels across the organization 

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline
  • Experience with R, Python and/ or SAS
  • Experience working with text analysis and unstructured data
  • 3+ years of experience in writing advanced SQL in multiple syntaxes
  • Experience utilizing business intelligence and reporting tools on current technology platforms including cloud based environments
  • Experience working in the Property and Casualty Insurance Industry
  • Experience with programming languages and/ or analytics software packages


Claims Analytics Analyst-Senior

Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for providing compliance subject matter expertise to the compliance process for the Claims function in order to ensure proactive identification of compliance issues; as well as, accurate and timely resolution of compliance related matters.  Support the compliance staff to ensure oversight is provided on all regulatory matters.

  • Maintain awareness of current regulations by state and communicate new regulations related to claim handling throughout the claims organization
  • Assist with coordination of market conduct exams to ensure compliance with state Departments of Insurance
  • Support internal audits and external audits  related to internal controls, assessment and development of key compliance requirements
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of claim handling guidelines, which includes collaborating with key stakeholders
  • Assist in the management of check escheats, return checks, duplicate payment monitoring and other fiduciary controls as needed
  • Support the Business Continuity planning for claims
  • Responsible for ensuring the compliance budget is supported through business acumen
  • Provide subject matter expertise knowledge on strategic projects
  • Maintain and ensure the compliance library is updated with any required documentation
  • Communicate changes in new law that impact claims handling
  • Manage oversight of Medicare secondary payer claims
  • Assist in the development of training materials as needed; coordinate with Learning & Development manager
  • Understand, apply and uphold organizational values during outward-facing interactions and guide team to ensure communications consistently align with company image
  • Identify opportunities and implement strategies for synergy and integration
  • Analyze risks, benefits and opportunities to ensure organizational competitiveness and satisfaction of established long-range goals

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 7 + years of experience in the Insurance industry
  • Possess advanced knowledge of claims processes and best practices
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of project management, continuous improvement methodologies and application
  • Possess skills in influence management and the ability to negotiate in complex situations with both internal and external groups
  • Ability to strategically plan and implement changes as needed
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information to an audience
  • Possess a high degree of financial acumen and awareness of financial responsibility
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Effective planning and organizational skills including time management, prioritization and attention to detail 

Desired Skills:

Possess knowledge of current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology and information affecting business and organization
