Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for creation, coordination and distribution of communications for the company — corporate, business-to-business, direct-to-consumer, internal, etc. The role will partner with all areas of the business to create and deliver key internal and external communications keeping the targeted audience informed about and engaged with, business needs, goals and news relating to the company.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Write new and edit existing content including agent-facing communications, internal communications, executive communications and customer communications, based on business needs/objectives, and leverage best practices to ensure the target audience absorbs and retains the information delivered
  • Work with team members to develop promotional marketing materials for B2B and D2C marketing initiatives to increase new business, brand awareness, conversion and retention — via email, direct mail, web, print ads, and other materials
  • Work with team members to develop informational communications for B2B and B2C initiatives which will convey messages relating to changes, updates and news relating to products, developments, technology enhancements, etc.
  • Create messaging which aligns the National General brand around the company’s vision and overall strategies, supporting brand development across the entire organization
  • Ensure communications are consistent with company’s vision, mission, goals, values and external messages to customers and ensure consistent messaging is maintained across all channels
  • Create communications for employee consumption and ensure comprehension as it relates to their roles in the different departments and impact on company culture
  • Ensure communications are clear and concise and follow AP Style guidelines
  • Coordinate the distribution of communication campaigns for print, digital and other channels by working with various areas of the business to determine timing, audience, brands, etc.
  • Generate distribution lists for communications
  • Deploy emails, post communications to policy management system, post communications to employee-facing intranet and provide art files to vendors, per defined schedule
  • Provide monthly reporting/tracking details regarding agent communications in addition to reporting for ad hoc requests

 

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or relative degree and/or have at least three years of experience in creating successful content and writing copy for businesses, in addition to insurance industry experience, or equivalent education, training and work-related experience.
  • Excellent communication skills — writing and speaking — with a flair for creativity in those areas of strength.
  • Have strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly visible role.
  • Ability to change gears quickly and move from one project to the next as priorities shift.
  • Possess strong relationship building ability and effective communication and interaction skills at all levels in the company.
  • Excellent grasp of the English language and strong understanding of grammar and punctuation.
  • Strong competency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and other similar applications.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Strong sense of urgency throughout all projects.

 

Desired Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience writing content for businesses in a fast-paced setting.
  • Proficiency with Power Point and other related office applications.
  • Ability to use web applications for crafting, deploying and analyzing email communication campaigns, specifically Constant Contact.
  • Ability to analyze data to determine effectiveness of marketing/communication campaigns in a valuable way.
  • Strong knowledge of AP Style and the English language.
  • Insurance agent’s license
