Job Description

Position: DevOps Engineer II (Azure/TFS/VSTS)

Location: Dallas, TX (Farmers Branch area)

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the design and development of builds, scripts, installation procedures, and systems including source code control and issue tracking.  Provide communication and collaboration between software development and infrastructure teams

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Develop and implement enterprise level .NET application software release standardization including, but not limited to, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Deployment, Orchestration and Build Automation engineering
  • Present a diversified knowledge of various products across the DevOps spectrum (Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, MongoDB)
  • Setup Azure DevOps Services builds, transformations and deployment configurations for all environments
  • Perform production and non-production build & deploy activities for application and SQL schema releases; Provide support for various technical teams, assist with troubleshooting issues
  • Assist with branching/merging in support of parallel development requirements
  • Collaborate with testing teams and assist with performance testing setup/execution
  • Liaison between application development and infrastructure teams in the establishment of needed infrastructure in all environments, subsequently supporting application deployment and configuration
  • Review deployment and operational environments, i.e., execute initiatives to reduce failure, troubleshoot issues across the entire infrastructure stack
  • Partner heavily with internal teams such as Application Development, Infrastructure, Database Administration and Quality Assurance
  • Develop an understanding of infrastructure footprint of existing .NET solutions and utilize as a pattern for new solutions
  • Serve as the SME for software development lifecycle tools – tools that facilitate development, testing, monitoring, integration/release
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, patch, and upgrade software application products
  • Participate in system performance tuning and technical troubleshooting sessions

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems
  • 2+ years of Application Development experience
  • 2+ years of distributed continuous build and deployment experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Azure DevOps Services including, but not limited to:

    GIT source control, branching strategies

    Creation and implementation of continuous integration via build pipelines Creation and implementation of continuous deployment via release pipelines, deployment groups

  • Strong build automation experience, ability to refactor application builds to use or implement use of NuGet packages.
  • Strong experience in building and deploying web applications, web services as well as IIS setup and configuration
  • Familiarity with building and deploying .NET Core applications
  • Thorough working knowledge of all phases of software development including design, coding, testing and implementation
  • Thorough working knowledge of Windows Server and troubleshooting in an Enterprise environment.  Includes application, web, content management and FTP servers
  • Hands-on experience in working with cloud architecture and hybrid cloud solutions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Performs work under minimal supervision
  • Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff
  • Ability to work with other team members, including mentoring less experienced team members
  • Ability to work with and understand business client requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure, adhere to project deadlines and procedures, multi-task and be detail-oriented

Desired Skills:

  • B. S. or M.S in Computer Science or related field
  • Strong knowledge of scripting languages, preferably PowerShell
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, IIS and PowerShell
  • Excellent hands-on experience with SQL, SSMS, SSIS packages and DACPAC implementation
  • Strong knowledge of Windows server technologies (ex. IIS configurations, monitoring agents) and network configurations (ex. DNS, proxy, firewall rule exceptions)
  • Understanding of Change Control procedures, High Availability, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery concepts as they relate to Distributed Systems architectures
