Primary Purpose:

Provides leadership and direction for a distributed team of diverse IT professionals.  Develops and coordinates strategic and tactical plans to guide the implementation and support of the enterprise server and network infrastructure to meet high availability requirements.  Assures appropriate hardware, software, staffing and services are in place to meet the needs of the organization and the end user community.  Assists with the creation and management of departmental budgets and ensures compliance with IT standards, policies, and procedures.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and recommend software, hardware, and services relevant to the operating needs of the company, as well as individual business units
  • Responsible for the acquisition, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the company's infrastructure
  • Develop long-term infrastructure plans and architectures taking into account trends or best practices in the field (e.g., ITIL), and evolving business requirements
  • Build and execute Infrastructure integration plans to support M&A activities
  • Establish and ensure compliance with service level agreements and key performance indicators or other required metrics
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and skills development of Infrastructure staff members
  • Establish effective communication with internal customers and stakeholders
  • Direct internal and external resources to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and scalibility of compute and communications systems
  • Develop and direct highly-motivated Infrastructure teams to deliver results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with competing priorities
  • Ensure appropriate compliance standards and security are implemented at all levels
  • Develop and maintain IT financial budgets for planned projects and annual budgeting activities


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 10+ years of experience in an IT field
  • 7+ years of working experience supporting a distributed computing model that spans multiple datacenters across several states
  • Experience with datacenter consolidation, virtualization troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Extensive understanding of infrastructure 'core services' including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, systems management, data replication & backup, network security principles, etc.
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and managing multiple projects independently. 
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • Must be able and willing to travel 25+ % of the time


Desired Skills:

  • BS/BA degree in Information Systems or related major
  • VMware certifications to include VCP-DCA
  • Experience with the Citrix XenApp and Desktop running in a VMware environment
  • MCSE certification or similar (can be expired)
  • Project management experience and certifications (PMP)
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance standards such as HIPPA, PCI, SOX, and NIST, ISO27001, etc.
  • Experience in a financial services organization, or large publicly traded organizations
