Primary Purpose:

This position is responsible for analysis, coding, testing and documenting database processes, routines, and applications from detailed specifications. This position is also responsible for participating in the preparation of specifications from which programs will be written.  Partake in the opportunity to learn and gain real world experience from a world class insurance organization working closely with other developers to solve complex data challenges to resolve business needs.


This will be onsite in Winston Salem, NC. Relocation is not available. Willingness to work the required schedule: starting ASAP, with a minimum of 10-12 contiguous weeks available to work and at least 30 hours a week.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates and/ or modifies programs to adapt to changes in needs and requirements, with supervision.
  • Read, understand, and troubleshoot coded computer instructions and how that translates into data
  • Reviews test results with users, creates program documentation, and obtains approval for changes
  • Test coded database program routines and makes revisions to eliminate errors in processing
  • Validate data generated from data packages and routines to ensure data accuracy
  • Analyzes issues and reports to lead team members to assist in decision making process
  • Assist in gathering and refining business, data, and system specifications from business users and translate to database developers and analyst
  • Develop a basic understanding of systems and technology used within the company
  • Develop a basic understanding of the content of policies written by the company
  • Develop a basic understanding of the insurance industry and the organizational relationships of the company
  • Develop a basic understanding of the functions of other departments as needed or when appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited 4-year university/college program, rising Junior/Senior preferred
  • Demonstrated/Proven record of success both academically and extra-curricular (GPA - 3.0 or higher)
  • Ability to successfully work in a team environment
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment; remain flexible and adaptable
  • Basic knowledge of presentation and public speaking skills
  • Basic knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and another programming language.
  • Demonstrated ability/willingness to learn new technologies
  • Demonstrated openness for learning, growth, coaching by peers and more senior level teammates
  • General knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Growing ability to effectively problem solving skills
  • Perform tasks within predefined guidelines and procedures as assigned by manager or project team.
  • Possess course work relevant to assigned organizational area
  • Understanding on databases /database architectures


Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of/Familiarity with Visual Studio, TFS and SSIS
  • Knowledge of/Familiarity with XML or .Net
  • Demonstrated/Proven attention to detail, organization, and timeliness in order to meet customer service expectations.
  • Growing ability to work on several projects simultaneously with direct guidance
  • Growing interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
