Primary Purpose:.

Installs and maintains middleware software connecting operating systems, applications, or other software components in a distributed computing environment across multiple National General datacenters.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, patch, and upgrade middleware software
  • Monitor usage and change configurations to improve capacity or performance
  • Document the installation process and note configurations, modifications, and upgrades made
  • Analyze business and user requirements to design and deliver appropriate technical solutions
  • Work closely with internal teams such as Development, Network, DBAs, and Storage
  • Possess strong Presentation and Customer Service Skills
  • Participate in system performance tuning and technical troubleshooting sessions as needed

 

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 2+ years of experience working with middleware applications
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows and Unix Servers Operating System operation, and troubleshooting in an Enterprise environment.  Includes application, web, content management and FTP servers
  • Strong working knowledge of middleware application installation, operation, and troubleshooting.  Specifically, IIS, IBM Websphere, Oracle Weblogic, Apache, Apache Tomcat, IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ and Siebel.
  • Continuously strive to make enhancements to the server environment, processes/procedures, and documentation
  • Perform work under general supervision
  • Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff
  • May provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group
  • Experience working within an ITIL framework or other environment using change control processes
  • Working knowledge of cloud architecture and hybrid cloud solutions
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with enterprise storage arrays and platforms

 

Desired Skills:

  • B. S. or M.S in Computer Sciences or related field
  • Solid Active Directory, DNS, IIS and PowerShell knowledge
  • Experience with domain consolidations/migrations and acquisition onboarding
  • MS Exchange 2013, Azure, and O365 experience
  • Understanding of Change Control procedures, High Availability, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery concepts as they relate to Distributed Systems architectures
  • VMware ESXi, Citrix XenApp and SQL Database familiarity
  • Solid understanding of HIPPA, NIST, PCI, SOX, or similar regulatory requirements
  • Project Management certification
