Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for preparing and setting up claims with basic to moderate levels of complexity for future handling.  Contact key stakeholders, interpret policy provisions, apply the policy language to individual claim losses, prepare letters regarding claim file status, review spreadsheet data and effect required actions as instructed by Management. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contact all parties involved in the claim to complete full investigation of the facts and damages relevant to the claim
  • Identify potential coverage issues and refer claims to management as needed
  • Determine liability and evaluate damages of all exposures related to the claim and document findings of investigation
  • Provide effective and timely communication to all internal and external stakeholders regarding claim status and other inquiries such as fraud and subrogation recovery
  • Evaluate and negotiate the resolution of claims within authority levels while mitigating damages to achieve cost effective claims outcomes
  • Support claims workflow efficiency by accurately documenting claim progress, referring high risk exposures outside authority levels and seeking opportunities that enhance operational knowledge
  • Utilize effective communication to understand the needs and goals of customers and actively look for ways to meet them
  • Mediate and resolve conflicts
  • Use multiple resources to gather and analyze significant data; identify relevant information and its impact
  • Leverage technical knowledge and established procedures to make cost-effective decisions
  • Assist others and participate on special projects as needed
  • Issue payments and extract data from claims system as required based on department need
  • Maintain integrity of claims portfolio and evidence

 

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Obtain/Maintain appropriate licensing or educational requirements (Resident Property/ Causalty Adjuster license)
  • 2+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Possess basic knowledge of claim system software
  • Possess basic knowledge of Insurance Claims
  • Possess analytical skills
  • Ability to empathize with customers
  • Ability to manage one’s own time
  • Complete tasks attentively and thoroughly with attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain a professional, poised and positive demeanor

 

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to speak Spanish
  • Basic knowledge of Mortgage industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
