Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Provides the development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of Business Intelligence solutions and reports within National General Lender Services through the use of the Microsoft SQL Server BI stack (SSIS /SSMS/SSRS /SSAS) and/or other tools.  Responsible for the aggregation of data from multiple sources into an efficient data warehouse and designing reporting solutions for very large multidimensional databases.  Partners and collaborates with technical and non-technical stakeholders to solve complex business problems by gathering requirements, prototyping and testing, or enhancing existing solutions to meet new requirements.  Continuously strives to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with regulations, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide clients and internal customers with quality service.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Translate business needs to technical specifications
  • Design, build and deploy BI solutions
  • Maintain and support data analytics platforms
  • Conduct developer testing and troubleshooting
  • Evaluate and improve existing BI systems and processes
  • Collaborate with teams to integrate systems
  • Develop and execute database queries and aid in development
  • Develop standard reports and functional dashboards based on business requirements
  • Develop and update technical documentation
  • Adhere to documented SDLC steps and deliverables
  • Escalate open issues and proactively ask questions in an agile manner
  • Lead smaller development teams while training and mentoring less experienced associates
  • Contribute towards development standards and analyzing future BI tools/technologies
  • Conduct/Lead Peer Reviews to ensure integrity of design, code, testing, and production migrations
  • Understand priorities and be able to prioritize work appropriately


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 10+ years Structured Query Language (T-SQL)
  • 5+ years of the following skill sets: SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
  • 5+ years’ experience with relational database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework
  • 5+ years’ experience data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining
  • Development knowledge of all phases of Software Development Lifecycle
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with leading developers
  • Works independently with little supervision
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Ability to work in an open team environment
  • Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative
  • Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude
  • Ability and desire to learn the business



Desired Skills:

  • 10+ years in SSRS, SSIS
  • 10+ SSAS and/or other OLAP tool experience
  • Knowledge of the Insurance Industry
