Position:  VMWare Systems Administrator III


Location:  Cleveland, OH (Westside Downtown Area)


Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the installation, operation and administration of a large-scale, high availability VMWare environment, while also involved in project based VMWare consolidations, live migrations, and disaster recovery operations for a distributed environment across multiple data centers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be able to deliver results in a fast-paced and flexible environment, while adapting to ever-changing priorities
  • Provide enterprise virtualization expertise and capability to install, configure and manage a highly available and scalable virtual infrastructure
  • Provide planning, installation, configuring, and upgrading support for vCenter Server and VMWare ESXi
  • Plan and configure vSphere related networking and storage solutions
  • Develop plans for deploying and administering virtual server configurations
  • Establish and maintaining service levels; perform basic troubleshooting; monitor vSphere implementations
  • Configuring and managing virtual networks and associated storage
  • Provide input on data protection, access, authentication control, resource management, monitoring, high availability, fault tolerance and scalable virtualized infrastructure solution
  • Take ownership of projects assigned and participates in the envisioned solutions
  • Implement solutions that exceed SLAs and proactively identify ways to improve infrastructure


Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 5+ years of VMWare experience implementing and administering mission critical enterprise class VMWare systems
  • Experience in large, highly available enterprise class virtualized environments consisting of 2000+ end users and or 1000+ virtual servers
  • In depth experience with the various components of VMWare Enterprise license suite, including VROPS, SRM, NSX, and vRealize
  • Strong Experience utilizing Powershell scripting for virtualization automation
  • Significant experience with Windows Server platforms including Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012
  • Advanced knowledge of clustering services, load balancing and replication services
  • Demonstrated experience and strong aptitude for creating documentation of designs and solutions
  • Proficient with disaster recovery concepts, implementation, troubleshooting and performance tuning is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of Infrastructure related ‘core services' including, but not limited to, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, HTTP, & Security principles
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Works independently with little supervision


Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Sciences
  • Experience with the Citrix XenApp running in a VMWare environment
  • Experience with Data Center consolidation and virtualization activities onto EMC vBlock and Cisco UCS based hardware environment
  • Understanding of Change Control procedures, High Availability concepts, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery concepts as they relate to Distributed Systems architecture
  • VMware VCP-DCA (preferred) and/or current Microsoft based certifications
  • Project Management Experience and certifications
