Primary Purpose:

Lead all aspects of multiple efforts to implement desired business initiatives. The content of an initiative could include domains such as IT system changes, new system implementations, infrastructure changes, system conversions, company acquisitions, operations, sales support or process improvements. Interact with all areas of the company (e.g. product development, product compliance, IT, operations, sales, underwriting, finance, etc.) to ensure the goals of all appropriate stakeholders are met. Ensure the final outcome of projects/programs deliver the intended business results and are aligned to overall organizational goals. Serve as a resolution point for issues within the team and across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure early engagement of strategic initiatives and programs
  • Prioritize programs and projects and work across boundaries to come up with solutions to competing timelines
  • Determine program approach and develop realistic expectations, manage timeline, scope, and expectations for complex mission critical initiatives
  • Assume accountability for the program/project and its delivery
  • Make suggestions for the success of the Program
  • Approve the progress of the project as it relates to the business vision
  • Remain accountable for completeness of requirements for programs
  • Lead and participate in requirement walkthrough for programs and enhancements
  • Create requirements for complex system enhancements if needed
  • Create and format tables that will be used for new state rollouts and enhancements
  • Anticipate, manage, and resolve issues and risks that are internal and external to the program
  • Prioritize issues and document and track resolution at a program level
  • Provide rapid turnaround on issues/concerns and change requests as well as requirement clarifications or interpretation
  • Act as a point of escalation for issues and concerns on Project/Program
  • Build and leverage key stakeholder relationships with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Testing, IT, Operations and Finance
  • Assist testing in issue resolution
  • Serve as a key participant in sign-off for project delivery with a focus on quality
  • Maintain program level metrics
  • Identify and implement process improvements

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 14+ years of experience with Portfolio/Program/Project Management
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to new situations and learn quickly 
  • High degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Willingness to take full accountability and manage competing priorities
  • Proficient in analyzing rate and rule manuals and able to prepare detailed business requirements and artifacts that will be used by IT (including rate table preparation, form requirements, rule definitions) on large programs
  • Quality driven
  • Must be able and willing to travel extensively to support sales and marketing initiatives
  • Willingness to participate and take a lead role in the companies catastrophe rapid response team
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Extensive technical background
  • Deep insurance industry knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Desired Skills:

  • BS in mathematics, finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or other quantitative discipline
