Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for collection and correlation of data necessary to maintain state insurance programs including rates, rules, and forms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and solve product/pricing problems by gathering relevant, compelling data from internal and external sources
  • Analyze potential changes to existing insurance products as well as the development of new products
  • Perform extensive product reviews that require analysis of trends, factors, issues, competitive position, and rate level indications
  • Analyze agency management, product distribution, and claims procedures to enhance growth and underwriting profit
  • Develop rate recommendations and state insurance department filings for assigned products
  • Analyze financial results and product profitability  
  • Forecast and model results of action plans
  • Communicate and collaborate with business partners in other functional areas, including marketing, finance, compliance, claims, IT, and senior management
  • Participate in enterprise-wide projects and initiatives
  • Demonstrate the ability to synthesize data, develop and pressure-test narratives, and provide actionable insights ("connect the dots") consistently versus just gathering data elements

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and analyze complex data sets
  • Highly proficient in managing and manipulating data in Excel
  • Demonstrated understanding of relational databases and data extraction
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to present information to management, other functional areas, and insurance agents
  • Ability to self-motivate, deal with ambiguity, solve problems, make decisions, see trends/patterns within data sets, identify root causes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor or advanced degree in insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, risk management, economics, business administration or related analytics-oriented discipline
  • Strong knowledge of personal lines insurance ratemaking methodologies and pricing techniques
  • 4+ years Product Management experience
  • Expertise with data tools like SAS and SQL
  • Actuarial CAS exams
