Primary Purpose:

Responsible for coordinating and managing a staff of producers/underwriters in multiple offices of Personal Express Insurance, a NatGen company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build expertise by selecting, training and developing technically competent underwriters with property/casualty multi-line expertise, confidence of judgment and deal orientation
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for profitable growth in order to achieve a balanced, profitable and quality book while protecting Company assets
  • Drive clarity of business strategies, creates alignment, and adeptly identifies and pursues new opportunities with an assigned set of producers in order to achieve a balanced, profitable and quality book while protecting Company assets
  • Act as a referral underwriter for underwriting staff
  • Analyze data prepared by underwriters and uses letters of authority to provide approval for risk selection and acceptance, coverage, and price
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external clients in order to attract, develop, grow, and retain profitable business for the segment
  • Analyze data and provide recommendations for risk selection and acceptance, coverage, and price for multi-line business
  • Analyzes key metrics of company results and identifies areas of improvement and development opportunities
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements as well as internal policies, procedures and processing standards
  • Audit assigned accounts and provides feedback to underwriters
  • Interact with numerous departments including Product Management, IT, Marketing, and Policy Operations to ensure that all in place underwriting processes and procedures are being executed properly
  • Be willing to speak up and make recommendations on any gaps in order to improve the processes in place
  • Work with IT partners to increase efficiencies by automating underwriting referral functions and enforcement where possible
  • Develop a team of Underwriters with state-specific knowledge that can be relied upon as subject matter experts

 

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 10+ years of experience in the insurance industry
  • 5+ years of experience in personal lines insurance industry
  • California Property & Casualty Agent License
  • Solid knowledge of Property and Casualty products, insurance operations, finance and actuarial concepts, regulatory environment, reinsurance, account management, underwriting and producer management
  • Proven record of successfully achieving business goals
  • Previous experience managing staff members
  • Comprehensive knowledge of coverage forms and procedures
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to mentor, motivate, and manage a staff
  • Experience with designating and mapping workflow
  • Solid knowledge of technology including experience with implementing new systems and enhancing existing systems
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

 

Desired Skills:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Insurance or course designations (e.g. AIC, CIC, CPCU)
