Primary Purpose:

Mid-level position with responsibility for collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data to determine relationships, trends, and issues

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop pricing and/or reserving indication projections by performing analysis that involves retrieving, reviewing and analyzing data and populating actuarial models
  • Assist with analysis and implementation of changes to existing pricing models and/or reserving models as well as the development of enhancements to improve prediction accuracy.
  • Create models to improve data analysis and understanding of business results
  • Develop and present recommendations based on data analysis
  • Identify issues that could adversely impact the business and/or brand. Communicate concerns and propose solutions to remedy the identified issues
  • Perform assigned deep dive reviews that require analysis of trends, factors, and other data-related issues to answer specific business questions
  • Provide support for required filings and follow-up questions from regulators or auditors related to pricing or reserving models
  • Assist in analyzing financial results, profitability and forecasting
  • Communicate and collaborate with business partners in other functional areas, including product, finance, accounting, claims, IT, and senior management
  • Build relationships with external business partners, primarily third-party administrators
  • Analyze the impacts and benefits of new products and rating characteristics
  • Identify, implement and documents improvements to processes (spreadsheets, coding, etc.)
  • Seek a greater level of understanding around products, sales and policy administration
  • Ask questions outside of individual projects, demonstrate intellectual curiosity
  • Participate in development of business recommendations and analysis of strategies

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 2+ years of experience in an Actuarial capacity or 2+ Actuarial exams successfully completed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Demonstrated understanding of relational databases, data extraction, and ability to organize and analyze complex data sets
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and project skills
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to project results, work with ambiguity, solve problems, make decisions, identify trends/patterns within data sets, and communicate root causes
  • Experience with SAS/SQL/VBA programming.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of state and federal insurance regulations
  • Ability to interpret data, understand next steps in analysis and offer recommendations based on the results of the analysis
  • Meet multiple deadlines and work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Participate in meetings, offer opinions when appropriate and ask questions
  • Make timely decisions, knows priorities and recognizes deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Understand the consequences of decisions
