Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for creating an estimate of damages to 1st and 3rd party material damage, by reviewing photos received: via MyClaimPics, from the customer; from Copart Auto Auctions or from a third party vendor. Also responsible for focusing on the needs of loss participants, identifying customer needs, and working to meet those needs using appropriate customer service skills for internal (claims adjusters) and external (policy holders and claimants).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Learn to handle most aspects of material damage claims with supervision
  • Develop a basic understanding of the content of all types of policies written by the company
  • Develop a basic understanding of the insurance industry and the organizational relationships of the company
  • Learn how to determine subrogation or fraud potential
  • Receive claim assignments and documents all appropriate information
  • Review photos thoroughly and determines reparability and complete assessment and or, total loss evaluation
  • Evaluate settlement alternatives by reviewing regulatory compliance and fair claims practices; makes decisions on best option
  • When appropriate, make contact to discuss a settlement; extend an offer to appropriate party; document all file activity and payment/settlement information in file notes clearly outlining basis for settlement
  • Complete continued education with both company required courses and additional outside courses
  • Take ownership of any issue, problem, or error that could potentially impact the policyholder and or loss participant

 

Level I

  • Complete accurate estimates with little supervision up to $2,000
  • Handle material damage and fair judgment in repair/replace decisions

 

Level II

  • Identify subrogation or fraud potential based upon physical evidence and refer to the appropriate claims representative when potential exists
  • Complete accurate estimates with little supervision up to $4,000
  • Accurately handle any type of material damage claims within limit of authority demonstrating labor judgment skills, ability to identify total loss, and soundly produce estimates
  • May assist in Material Damage training and development of claims representatives
  • Serve as a mentor for less experienced Estimate Writers

 

Senior

  • Identify subrogation or fraud potential based upon physical evidence and refer to the appropriate claims representative when potential exists
  • Assist in Material Damage training and development of claims representatives and Estimate Writers
  • Serve as a mentor for all Estimate Writers
  • May assist in file review and/or file audits
  • Complete accurate estimates with little supervision up to $15,000

Level I

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • Estimating experience with an automated estimating system
  • Basic knowledge of claims process
  • Obtain and Maintain appropriate license and/or educational requirements
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Recognize and able to identify all body parts of a vehicle
  • Learn to understand other potential property damage exposures
  • Develop understanding of claim policies & procedures
  • Interpret and apply written coverage accurately
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • High degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and empathize with customers is critical
  • Strong negotiation skills

 

Level II

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • Estimating experience with an automated estimating system
  • Successfully completed week one of Estimator Training at Forsyth Technical Community College
  • Successfully complete I-Car Level One or equivalent
  • Obtain and Maintain appropriate license and/or educational requirements
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Maintain consistent file review exception rates at or lower than department set standards
  • Solid command of the claims policies and procedures; exhibits basic interpretation of policies & procedures in resolving claims
  • General understanding of the repair and replacement of property damages, to include mechanical components of a vehicle and other potential exposures
  • General knowledge of unibody/ conventional frame damages and repair processes
  • Comply with the company material damage guidelines
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • High degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and empathize with customers is critical
  • Strong negotiation skills

 

Senior

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of claims process
  • Successful completion of claim representative trainee program, and/ or equivalent business experience
  • Maintain consistent file review exception rates at or lower than department set standards
  • Obtains and maintains appropriate licensing and/ or education requirements
  • Demonstrate consistency proficiency in file
  • Thorough knowledge of claims policies and procedures in resolving claims and/or providing technical direction to claims representatives
  • Experience mentoring others
  • Ability to interpret and apply written coverage accurately to establish claim and determine action plan
  • Expert understanding of the repair and replacement of property damages, to include mechanical components of a vehicle and other potential exposures
  • Expert knowledge of unibody/conventional frame damages and repair processes
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Successful completion of Advanced Vehicle Estimatics
  • Successful completion of Chief Structural Damage Analysis or similar course through Forsyth Technical Community College
  • Successful completion of advanced frame, steering and suspension analysis course
  • Successful completion of the Senior Field Claims Representative exam and ride along and evaluation
  • Successful completion of Fraud Training
  • ICAR or other industry related courses or workshops
  • High degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and empathize with customers is critical
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

 

 

Desired Skills:

  • Adjuster license in your home state or state that requires examination and CE
  • Previous material damage claims handling experience
  • Management experience in a repair facility
  • RV Estimatics, RV Policy, Motorcycle Estimates, and Motorcycle as dictated by area business needs
  • Proficient and able to train others in using all systems and technology used to appraise and evaluate automobile physical damage claims
  • Strong understanding of insurance law as it relates to claims
  • Ability to find answers to more complex issues with insurance law and material damage,
  • Solid understanding of the insurance industry and organizational relationships of the company
  • Sound understanding of the functions of other departments, such as Policy Ops and Marketing
  • Thorough and consistent pattern of understanding and demonstrating our NGIC Point of Difference
  • Overall performance through evaluations over multiple review periods which consistently meet or exceed department standards
