Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Coordinate and participate in project reviews, system analysis, production problem corrections, enhancements, and testing of a wide range of NGIC and third party applications. Serve as a liaison between developer, product managers, compliance and end-users.  Provide expert business knowledge to successfully implement system changes to NGIC applications, including customer facing software and comparative raters.  Provide analysis, testing and project planning for complex projects.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate business requests to determine feasibility, work with developers to define alternatives, and provide recommendations for an optimal solution
  • Deliver precise functional specifications to include business rules, interface design and definitions, outstanding issues, data analysis, and data mapping to clients and development staff
  • Prepare overall project plan, incorporating system considerations for various operational areas, submit the request for programming, coordinate and drive successful delivery based on agreed to schedule
  • Conduct gap analysis between application and stated customer requirements and collaborate with architects and developers to estimate project impact
  • Provide training for other business system analysts to develop department resources therefore improving bench strength 
  • Create test plans/scripts and verify results which includes functional, system, usability, acceptance, and regression testing
  • Execute test scenarios, approve project implementation and verify the production output upon implementation
  • Serve as business expert for developers and technical liaison for the business units for complex processes   Ensure a common, consistent product for all states, products and lines of business for internal and external system customers
  • Coordinate and document the resolution of problems encountered during and subsequent to the testing process
  • Review and research complex production problems; determine the extent to which they are testing, development, or user errors 
  • Determine impact of complex issues on the business units, develop alternative work processes until complex issues are resolved, work with developer to recreate problem and recommend solutions
  • Provide support to many other areas including researching additional factors affecting a cost benefit analysis and other analytic or diagnostic services that support decision making by management

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 3+ years of prior BA, QA, or similar position
  • 3+ years of experience in a technology environment
  • Property Casualty Insurance experience or similar financial services experience
  • Extensive understanding of the SDLC and Waterfall / Agile methodologies  
  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance to less experienced personnel and prior experience training
  • Prior expert system knowledge and understanding of system processes
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and translate user needs into business specifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of company operating systems and processes including the policy administration system
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct investigation and research into system errors and discrepancies
  • Demonstrate skill in writing requirements and the development of test plans and test cases through thorough analysis of requirements 
  • Ability to represent the department and contribute to the strategy of executing the company objectives, with limited management guidance, and based on expert experience
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and timeliness in order to meet customer expectations
  • Demonstrate effective listening, communicate, interaction, discretion, and diplomacy skills
  • Expert organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to aggressive project deadlines
  • Possess very strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with business and technical resources
  • Perform well in high-energy, dynamic and team-oriented environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • High degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Desired Skills:

  • Expert knowledge and understanding multiple products and lines of business
  • 5+ years of experience in documenting business requirements and implementing a wide variety of projects
  • Business Analyst and/or Project Management certification
  • Experience working with Microsoft TFS, Quickbase and Sharepoint applications
  • SQL Experience
