Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the analysis, design, code, test, documentation and support of new software applications and enhancements to existing applications.  Contribute to the preparation of specifications to resolve business client questions.  Manage a team of software developers as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team of developers dedicated to the on-going support and maintenance of a group of applications while actively contributing as a hands-on, working developer
  • Design, develop and test software applications, ETL processes and stored procedures
  • Maintain systems by identifying and correcting software defects
  • Create technical specifications and unit test plans
  • Work with business analysts and application users to define and design robust user centric application solutions
  • Analyze and document how new business requirements fit into existing systems
  • Develop technical specifications to resolve business client questions, problems, and to address enhancement needs
  • Work as part of an Agile development team to solve problems and develop automated solutions in a fast paced environment
  • Independently analyze issues, use sound judgment to make decisions, and take necessary action
  • Follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Demonstrate a high degree of creativity and problem solving skills
  • Serve as liaison between development team and business partners
  • Communicate status and timelines to users, analysts, stakeholders, and IT leadership
  • Coach and mentor junior and other new developers
  • Provide on-call production support for online applications, daily job cycles and month-end / period-close cycles
  • Provide Change Management support as needed
  • Exhibit regular attendance and punctuality as these are essential functions of the job

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience using Microsoft SQL Server tools in a production environment
  • Proficient with SSIS, SSRS, SSMS, SQL
  • Experience in end-to-end Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) project
  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization
  • Must perform well in high-energy, dynamic and team-oriented environments
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, organization, and timeliness in order to meet customer service expectations
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving and analytical skills
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Works independently with little supervision
  • Perform tasks within predefined guidelines and procedures as assigned by manager or project team
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Financial and/or Insurance industry experience is a plus

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with Financial terms and concepts related to accounting, disbursements, and reconciliations
  • Possess experience in supporting online systems and batch job cycles
  • Understanding of production support
